Why is it so hard to talk about MONEY?
Welcome to Blog #1 on the topic of MONEY. I am deeply intrigued by the weirdness we have developed over the topic of money and here’s why. In an online ecosystem, to sell your wares you must be able to collect money. To collect money you must jump over hurdles, be a professional mind-reader, and have a MASTERS in Emotional Intelligence. This is a self-created cataclysm waiting to happen. I want to know why the conversation around money has to be so fucking uncomfortable. I am on a quest to rewrite the rules as this.
You want what I am selling. I give you a great experience by way of a phone call of a long string of Facebook messages. If you don’t have the money, then say no. If you do have the money then pay right then. But NO here is how it goes instead.
I have a long Facebook chat with you, during my business hours, and you ask me valuable questions, getting valuable answers. Then, I ask for the sale like I was taught to do in Life Insurance Manager Training. I say, “Ok, here is your payment link”. And what do you do? “Well can I wait until Friday or next week”, or “My budget is really tight right now”, or “I need to talk it over with my husband”. See how you, the consumer, are not only making it hard on you because you don’t get what you thought you needed, and you are making it hard on ME because I have spent hours chatting with you on messenger or talking to you on the phone.
You should try hard to understand that this is BILLABLE time and that you are getting something for free. I want to talk about this. My professional advice has a price tag. So, my first solution is to stop giving away chat message time.
Talking about money is the only way we are going to have more money. I have made so many mistakes giving away my time with no money return, and I am getting really frustrated with the whole faking bullshit that I see on a day to day basis. Don’t tell me you don’t have the money to do something if you do. So, what are three steps I can take right now, as an entrepreneur who has allowed too much brain picking?
- First, limit messenger chats to 10 minutes then send to the link for scheduling a call.
- On the schedule software, include the language “Any Time Over will be Invoiced at $100 an hour, then
- Create a money-closing “Ask” conversation with each point of contact.
